Florida Food Tour: Dinner at Fresco's Waterfront

Dinner at Fresco's Waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg. It was a celebratory dinner so we enjoyed sparkling wine with a Smoked Salmon Flatbread Pizza. This was a wonderful representation of intuitive eating as soon as it hit the table. First the rich scent of fresh basil and red onion. Although the toppings were a somewhat unevenly distributed the ingredients melded very well. Capers, tomatoes, spinach, pesto, red onion, green and parmesean on a cream cheese base. Imagine that lox combo on a bagel, in sushi or on a crostini in a first class flight and put it on a pizza crust! But better...

The designer of this plate did very well in pairing the rich flavors of the pizza with a Cold Cucumber Salad. The light vinegarette dresses a traditional combination of cucumbers, tomatoes and onions.

When you get two foodies who have not seen each other in years there is more talking about food then eating it sometimes, not often but this was one of those times. This waterfront restraurant was a very enjoyable culinary experience and just the dining experience I was seeking for my first dinner on this local foods tour. Almost.

The downside? I was unable to find out if the fish on the menu was fresh, meaning caught locally, so we did not order any of the fish dishes. Yes, I know smoked salmon is not local but as you know I am looking for the local foods and flavors of SWFL. I will however return if there is time and try more of their flavor-full menu!
