Greetings friends and food seekers!
Welcome to the inaugural post of the official Nutrisha blog! As the title suggests today I am speaking to the subject of fear, specifically in food but personally in general.
I love food! I love the art that is found in the colors of fresh fruits and vegetables, the distinct texture color and viscosity of an hard boiled egg (although the yolk is something I will always give away- it is just something I have never enjoyed) and the endless combinations of possible creations!
Now the fear. Fear presents differently for everyone. Some fear weight gain, weight loss, cholesterol, sugar, that 4-letter word CARB... Some fear portions, eating in front of others or even shopping for groceries for fear of Cart Judgement. Yes, I can relate to similar fears. The over-analytical mind of a person neurotic enough to pursue the field of nutrition does not come by a science passion without a few ticks.
That is getting deeper than we want to scratch on our first day yes? Okay, let's get back to the title Fear NO Food. My mission, my passion, this blog and future projects are all about EMPOWERMENT! Instead of looking at a medical or nutritional diagnosis one has been given and fearing the daunting list of the "No", "Don't" and "Shouldn't" let us be empowered! Empowerment is looking at the long list of Do! Can! Will! as your palate of paints ready for a blank canvas that is your food future!
Empowerment in food is found, I believe and am on a journey to live, through community and personal growth. Local foods, eating seasonably, buying storing and preparing food in ways that provide us with the most nutrient efficient plate. I never exercise more than an hour, why? Because the human body is smart, it is efficient if we give it the right fuel and function.
Yesterday I took two steps toward my fear. Fear is something I face daily, hourly, even with food. Food is also therapy. In a step toward facing fear, a silly fear of grilling. The simple task of lighting the grill has always been something I defer to whomever else is around when it's time to grill. So, yesterday I marinated chicken, lit the grill by myself and had success! It was fantastic!
In my "Use What You Got" theme, I used up three bell peppers that were in need of love. Just olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic then grilled up with the chicken.
Chopped into a salad of spinach and live lettuce with ranch dressing. So good. The interesting thing about building a healthy relationship with food through empowerment is the respect for food that grows through the preparation process.
The second step toward fear was launching this page! One baby step at a time I am cultivating the seed of a dream and finding my own self-confidence in the process. Thank you for taking this journey with me and I look forward to hearing your Fear NO Food stories!
Great work, Trish!
ReplyDeleteI know you believe in a balance...but, I'm thinking about doing a 10 day juice fast. Juicing organic local produce with my Champion Juicer. A cleansing/detox excersise. What are your thoughts, please?

If your Doc says ok, then I will go with his input. My priority is always safety first, I don't anticipate this would be a danger for you. But you will visit the ceramic throne quite a bit as your system will not be used to all the produce. Let me know your goal for the juice fast, the source of information and type of food to "juice" so I can know a little more.
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else, it is a great exercise in patience and self discipline to limit yourself to only a small variety of foods and texture for that time, which with success can be very good for self discovery.
